The pair first made contact over message boards on Okayplayer.com and began recording and sending music back and forth. Soon after, they formed The Foreign Exchange without having ever met each other in person, hence the name.
The Foreign Exchange is an R&B/electronica/hip hop duo consisting of the American rapper/singer Phonte Coleman and the Dutchrecord producer Nicolay.
“Smith and Phonte performing at the House of Cards in Paris, France, during the Authenticity Tour in January 2011.”
The album, Connected, was released in 2004 and was a showcase for Nicolay’s musical talents as well as an introduction to like-minded Little Brother affiliates who guested on the album. The album received strong reviews[2] and the single, “Sincere”, featuring YahZarah, was released with a promotional video.
The Foreign Exchange are one of the most prolific sounds in today’s hip-hop jazz electronica and r&b genres. Â If there ever was a time to take a listen to their lyrics, their insight, and their heightened sense of oh my goodness, its now. Â With all of the rat racing, social networking, staying alive and various political agendas, it’s just toooooo much. We ask you to let the Foreign Exchange help you to relax and feel good again. Â Just like when apple pie smelled up the neighborhood and lemonade was sold from the top of a tablecloth on a hot summer’s day. Â These southern gents are rare stones, look how much they brighten your day just by listening. Â Enjoy
