MMLA’s Dorsay Dujon and Metro’s Special Events Coordinator Aurea Adao
MMLA’s Executive Director, Dorsay Dujon and Board of Directors Chair Education Committee Mark Hummer
Dorsay Dujon, Founder/ExecutiveDirector of Make Music LA, Mark Hummer, Board of Directors Chair, Education Committee and Aurea Adao, Metro’s Assistant Special Events Promotion Coordinator, came out over this past weekend to support all things music and to announce their upcoming June 21st, celebration of the first Make Music LA to be held in Los Angeles. The one day music festival follows a tradition of the event which originated in France. The Fete De La Musique also known as World Music Day, is a world wide music festival, that takes place on June 21st the day of the Summer Solstice.
Fete De La Musique has since spread to Belgium, Britain, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Israel ( In Tel-Av iv), China, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Columbia and other countries. Make Music LA will promote live concerts throughout Los Angeles County and LA Proper from different locations. Transportation to various locations will be provided courtesy of Metro Link, who by the way, is partnered with MMLA.  The idea of creating a Make Music LA is the brainchild of Ms. Dujon, who contacted the head of the organization, Aaron Friedman, President and Founder of Make Music New York.Â
Aaron has held the event since 2007. Dorsay asked Friedman was there anyone in LA heading up a similar program. When Friedman answered, no, Dorsay volunteered and “voila” there was MMLA. Make Music LA’s, Board of Directors Chair Education Committee head, Mark Hummer and Metro’s Special Events Coordinator, Aurea Adao, plan to help beef up the summer held festival’s participants, by outreaching with existing sponsors and local community affiliates. The invites are open to local musicians, visiting musicians, performers and entertainers who are musically inclined and who want to entertain.  These free promotional concerts have been strategically planned out in order to draw both celebrities and City officials from not only Los Angeles, but from outlying areas outside of the City, as well.
The concerts will showcase local talent and MMLA is working to stream the event via the Internet. All talent can be known or unknown. Metro Link and MMLA invite fans and the performers to spread the word on twitter, mobile, fb, and Google. The wind blew briskly past our faces as we all took a deep breath. The sound of laughter from the mouths of children and their parents, lifted itself up into a high crescendo. It was pleasant to see combined community efforts from Make Music LA and Metro Link.  Trains are gearing up to transport anyone who wants to ride, to and from the event. Dorsay Dujon is a member of the Duke Ellington Society of Southern California and is an arts and culture activist. For more information on how you can sign up to participate in the June 21st festival contact: D.DUJON@MAKEMUSICLA.ORGÂ
