Keg Day dates back to the first Yard House opening, December 7, 1996 on the Long Beach Marina waterfront. Trucks pull up with deliveries of hundreds of kegs -250 or more-and carry them into a 34 to 36 Fahrenheit temperature controlled, glass encased room. Each keg has its own tag date and distributor name. Surrounded by 140 iconic handles, a designated tap is then placed on each beer head visually enhanced by the restaurant’s signature island bar. There are five miles of individual stainless steel protected beer lines that stretch across a wood and steel based charismatic décor. The event happens once a year, at 7:00AM and goes for five hours.Â
Now seventeen years later, Yard House presents its 45th opening to Marina Del Rey residents and its West Los Angeles food and beer lovers. The invite only restaurant presentation will display 12,000 square feet, with a guest capacity of 364 that includes indoor and outdoor seating with ample-size booths plus low and high-top tables and additional seating. The indoor interior lays out a wall of original abstract paintings commissioned by California artist, Jerome Gestaldi. The Yard House Marketplace will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony hosted by LAX Coastal Chamber Of Commerce on May 31 at 4:30PM where it will present a $2000 check to the Westside Food Bank. Immediately following the ceremony is the first of two public sneak previews pre-opening parties set for 5-8PM on both May 31 and June 1. The official restaurant opening is Sunday, June 2 at 11AM for lunch, dinner, and late-night dining. The Houses American infused menu features soups, salads, street tacos, fresh seafood, pasta and rice dishes that offer an under 600 calorie option. Steak, poultry and a specialized selection of fresh fish is a perfect fit for the Marina’s eclectic community. Yard House’s hip and perceptive PR team, were mindful of the locations ever-growing conscious group of health advocates. These local gluten-free sensitive’s can also enjoy the restaurant’s careful blend of garden veggies and a veggie protein called Gardein. Gardein has the texture and taste of beef and poultry.
Harald Herrmann, President of Yard House, May 31-June 1 invite only event will share his 200 freshly hired and intensively trained chefs re-formed and creatively directed ideas on Happy Hour full-serving appetizers, wine, beer and signature drinks, offered of course, at half-price. Their knowledge of art, design, culture, and fine taste shine through in their handsomely decorated full course dishes. The special item on that day will be the private viewing of Yard House’s unique beer system featuring a glass enclosed keg room that host hundreds of platinum steel barrels. This system branded as the restaurant’s official calling card, introduces a selection of small, limited releases from mostly top labeled Craft Beers that rotate frequently keeping the act of guzzle exciting. The digital Chalkboard Series displays a list of beers above the Island bar. The list includes pints and half yards of ales, stouts, and lagers. Popular beer lover specials like, “Rogue Dad’s Little Helper, a black IPA selected especially for Father’s Day; “Dogfish Head ArcheoBirra Etrusca-Bronzeâ€, a unique offering from Dogfish Head and an early Etruscans inspired blend will be a few of the delicate taste in residence for the big celebration. A single hop variety of Flying Dog Imperial Citra IPA, a 10.0% ABV, an Imperial stout named Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero is a sure sensual attack with its fine blend of Ancho Chili-Cinnamon-Chocolate-Vanilla flavor. The Yard House’s award-winning home brewer is the perfect partner for the ultimate Uinta Cahoots Double Imperial Rye IPA. These various arrays of the Yard House selected beers are piped from the glass encased room, through miles of a specially designed overhead of steel and nylon tubing. The tubing feeds the featured designated taps at the center island bar. The state-of-the-art sound system pumps an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary rock. A daily, fresh play-list is laid out along with a fleet of flat-screened, tuned to sports, televisions placed in strategic areas, to adjust to the restaurant’s diverse demographics.
