Director Tamra Davis Jean-Michel Basquiat The Radiant Child

Today marks Jean-Michel Basquiat’s entrance into Artspace.

Jean passed away at only  27 years old. In astrology we are told there is a cycle called  “Saturn Return” from age 27-30 sometimes beginning as early as age 23.

It is a spiritual test, wherein an individual is tested for life endurance and to see if they are ready for graduation into the first skin or layer of being an adult. Some research has shown that many artist have transitioned at the height of their careers and around age 25-30. He burst onto the New York art scene in the 70’s using the graffiti tag name, “SAMO”. Interestingly enough if he had only just hung around a little bit longer, social media might have been able to take care of a few of his lonely moments.

Social media would have kept him in the circle and perhaps he would not felt so isolated.

He would have seen his canvases once donned, not acceptable, now sell for millions.

Hulu is streaming Director, Tamara Davis’ 2009, Jean-Michel Basquiat: “The Radiant Child”along with Netflix and certainly other streams are humming up the spirit of Jean-Michel. He was known to be friendly at times and allow others to paint with him. His isolation at times came about as a result of intense emotional pain. In 1981 he painted his first canvas and by 1983 had become a raw talent phenomenon.  His collaboration with Andy Warhol proved to be one of his finest collections of work to date, although the New York critics didn’t think so at the time. The mood of Basquiae’s fans shifted and Jen-Michel fell from grace leaving him with a deep sense of not belonging. and pull of the social elite, and Jean Michel’s own inner demons led him into the obscure world of drugs, then back to art and finally to his death on August 12, 1988.

Actor Jeffrey wright should have gotten an Oscar for his portrayal of Jean-Michel Basquiat in the televised movie that featured Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper  and David Bowie.

Wright became Jean-Michel not even the blind could miss that.

Jean-Michel Basquiat is a stone that that has such a rare color that its emissions can not be recorded.

Enjoy,
