Dorothy Chandler, The Music Center and LA Arts Commission Wrap Music and Culture Around 54 Years of Celebration

The 54th Annual Holiday Celebration performance produced by, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission is the show extravaganza of the year, that you do not want to miss. Culver City News got up close and personal  as we  got a behind the scenes look at executive producer, Laura Zucker, directors and other team members shape and shift into the annual celebration, held annually at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion’s Music Center, on Christmas Eve, December 24. The rehearsal room was vibrant with activity and everyone there seemed to be in high spirits. Highly publicized by Lucy Pollak PR, the event, set to air live on KCET-TV, makes use of a broad range of over 20 diverse performers from across Los Angeles County, who have roots here, in the Southern California area. www.lucypr.com. (818) 887-1499.

Some of the artists that audiences can expect to see at the Christmas Eve gala are the “Salvation Army Tabernacle Children’s Chorus, Invertigo Dance Theatre, Immaculate Heart of Mary Children’s Choir, Jung Im Lee Korean Dance Academy, Quetzal, Palmdale High School Choral Union, Jazz Antiqua Music and Dance Ensemble, Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet, Harana Men’s Chorus, Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, South Bay Children’s Choir, ARC Hand Bell Choir, Artemusica, Sarah Reich and Tap Music Project, Lorenzo Johnson and Praizum, Gypsy All-Stars ( sons of the world famous Gypsy Kings) ,Gay Men’s Chorus of LA, Colburn Children’s Chorus and Ypung Men’s Choir, and the Ate9 Dance cOMPANY  The Michael Coburn School  which by the way, is located across from the Pavilion, and upon discovery is LA’s best-kept secret.  To see, various ethnic groups, which includes dancers, vocalists, pianists, and performers from all over the world, on one stage, at one time is a site for anyone’s sore eyes. This event is the most talked about celebration for both LA County and the Los Angeles Arts Commission. Colburn School Director of California Children’s Choir, Mikhail Shtangrud, gave us a first-hand look into the complications that go along with preparation for his youth chorus to perform for this holiday season. He mentioned that his family came from Russia, his place of birth, and were- known choral performers of the area. He seemed to have an extra sensory perception about the sound and style of the chorus. With just one glance from director, Shtangrud, the children sang as if, he had spoken to each one of them individually.

Doors open Tuesday, 12/24 at 2:30PM and the entrance to” The Music Center Plaza” will open at noon.

Showtime goes from 3PM-6PM. Patrons are free to come and go during the three-hour show.
