Live at LA’s Hotel Café an Inside Look at the Re-emergence of Valentin Marx

As one may very well suspect that’s truth is that everybody has a story. Valentin Marx is no different. When asked the question about their re-emergence into something from good to good and even better the reply was exactly what one would want to hear. We just do our music and touch the lives of those that we can. We have no political edge, we have no reason to be at cross roads with social media. Our on-line presence is a platform that works for us.

The three-member group heralds from Brooklyn, talked about their humble beginnings when they were individuals and how they came to become a group. Singer, songwriter, lead vocals and guitar and piano, Andrew Kissel who some may call Andy, bassist/vocalist, Travis Pinkston and drummer/percussionist, Brian Yurachek are Valentin Marx. Brian is key at keeping the band synced with marketing and branding. He is genius at maintaining fluidity allowing easy access for fans and a viable opening to labels looking for good musical content.

Valentin Marx performed for the first time in Los Angeles at the Hotel Café located at 1623 Cahuenga Boulevard. A rightful sign is their set on Friday, February 15, happened to be immediately following the hoop la of the Grammy’s. Lots of artists, managers, labels as well as an assortment of other stuff are still in town. Not to mention Valentine’s Day before and of course the Oscars coming up this weekend and of course Valentine’s Day.

This means that lots of eye balls are focused on looking for the next best single and those talented few who may be capable of longevity and who can keep the ball rolling long after the lights stop spinning. With lots of lonely hearts looking for love, Made Up is ihe perfect song for chilling with your kabooks.

Ain’t it funny how life happens. Andrew talked about his life journey as he told us of how a former girlfriend broke up with him suddenly and without reason inspired him to write “Made Up.” In the crazy nuances of social relations when this happens, it’s called being “ghosted”. “Made Up” is open and honest, sad and profound, naïve and fulfilling. It tickles the heart and edges around a few musical curves that only the experienced are gifted at doing.

An innocence bleeds through with an audible tone noting the risk we all take in order to give and receive love.  Travis and Brian chimed in as brothers for a cause do supporting Andrew in his expression vocally and on the guitar. While sitting in front of them I felt as if I could feel the bond of life and lessons that held them so tightly together. It felt quiet and personal, deep and enriching. I absolutely knew without a doubt that one would do whatever necessary to keep the other one standing.

If ever there were a special-segment on artist ingenuity, then this was certainly the time to see to it that these guys got in on it. Appearing at spots like Berlin, Pete’s Candy Store and Arelene’s Grocery, Valentin Marx only need continue to make the sounds needed to rock the house and to truly have freedom of expression.

Los Angeles can be brutal for first comers however in this case the lingering crowd from inside who shared the intimate space from the first group that performed, hung around. As the lines continued to grow longer outside the doors of the Hotel Café the rain dropped ever so quickly making itself a mesmerizing palate for those with an open mouth. The evening was just as magical as the music and sounds from the 2nd studio down from the front entrance filled the air. The long line was not without torrential rain which although deemed as bad weather made it all kind of exciting.

On stage inside Valentin Marx who according to their appearance in Deli Magazine have an airy dream-pop feel that set the pace for the rest of the night. Women comfortably squirmed with the entire crowd waiting for the next quick as a flash guitar rift which seem to jump right out at you showing no restrictions.

“Made Up” pushes all the right buttons and hits home because whether young or old everyone can relate to ghosting.

Valentin Marx is headed straight to the top with their hit single, “Made Up”. Their crisp and breezy sound is a like a breath of fresh air, and we could all certainly use some of that.
