Guest blogger: Wendy Tigerman
Introducing the funny, honest, and talented, Ms. Wendy Tigerman, President of Collage Artists of America. Here at 15 Minutes, we are always on the lookout for quality citizens of earth, ones who are heart friendly. So, we were delighted, just by chance, to meet Wendy. It was good vibes right from the beginning–an opportunity for us to do something fresh and new. Interviewing her at the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center was the perfect staging place.
Our cameraman, writer and videographer, the eminent, Foster Corder, had suggested going through some community calendars. A quick search of our local news outlets introduced us to the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center. Their activity for the month was Just Your Imagination, a juried exhibition by Collage Artists of America’s, where we found Wendy, leading a CAA meeting.
The San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center aka, SFVACC, is a local treasure and one of the area’s best-kept secrets. They are conveniently located at 18312 Oxnard Street in Tarzana, California. Wendy and her group meet there five times a year and enjoy the comradery of other collage artists and the inspiration of talented speakers. The center runs a wide range of art classes, hosts concerts and workshops, and provides a rental space for exhibitions, entertainment, and private events.
Tigerman was a natural in front of the camera. Later we discovered that she had studied at the world famous, Groundlings–a perfect fit for this comedy radio spot writer, director, and producer. In love with every aspect of the process, Wendy started her own company, Tiger Radio. She told us that the only way that she knew a spot was over was that she was still laughing. What could be more fun than that? Simultaneously, she maintained her position as Associate Creative Director at Free Associates on the Westside of LA.
All this time she continued her lifelong romance with visual arts. After decades of ad work, Wendy was a photographer and mixed media artist full time. A woman with a heightened social conscience, she considered how she could be of service to other artists. Thus, she became Graphics Chair and President of Collage Artists of America, spending lots of time nurturing analog, digital and assemblage artists.
