Michael D’Antuono, isn’t your everyday deeply inclined to shut himself off from the rest of the world artist, he is a socio-political artist with and intent and purpose when he puts paint and brush to canvas. He is often referred to as, The Rockwell of the Resistance. If that isn’t a mouthful, then I don’t know what is.
A man for the cause and an artist that has the social context to paint a scene or two about the cause is a rare find indeed. Michael has always been interested in purposeful art even as a child. As his state of conscious continued to develop he realized that he could have a voice and express himself through art.
The finding of oneself and evidence of truth can usually be found in the daily habits of the individual in question in Michaels case he found out how true he was to self when he got shunned for painting an image of Barack Obama, President Barack Obama at that time wearing a golden crown of thorns adorned around his head. In Michael’s mind his art intended to honor and elevate the man and his being the first black president or any president of color and so rather than stand up Michael told our cameras that he gave in to his wife, and to the often violent sarcastic and negative thoughts of others and decided to no longer have anything to do with the image. What Michael discovered was self and the courage to never again let himself or his brush be persuaded by the negative remarks of others.
Black Injustice in America a show that Michael invites well-known guest and those who have a voice to drop in sit down and have a chat or two, is reflective of the kind of topics that he holds so close to heart. The show highlights their voice their thoughts and opinions in an open honest and safe environment. The movie, Black Injustice in America caused quite a stir soliciting response from creative artist such as, Peter Seeger as well as bringing social and politically involved heavyweight activist like Corey Booker, Van Jones and Eugene Robinson.
His newest baby project, Democracy’s Last Stand, is in its 3rd series and is a fair assessment of where we all stand in our fight or not for social injustice and how we can all do our best to support. Toure, social activist, cultural critic, author and broadcaster, as well as Harvard Law School graduate and political activist, Elie Mystal have all appeared on the show.
His story has and still is being told by newspapers and major publications nationally. His works shown alongside, Bansky, Keith Haring and Shepard Fairey. Collected by non-other than the Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Malcolm Nance, Michael is a favorite on some of the country’s most prestigious talk shows including Marc Maron and Glenn Beck.
