When did Fashion become bigger than the down under, out voted, rebellious and latest oddities in the news or has it always been that way an we just never paid attention. Why is it so important to wear clothes that are seasonal in both color and style or in some cases little to no clothes at all nakedness being the fashion statement? And who dictates what we sport around each day grabbing remnants of this and that from closets with private eyes. Famed designer, intuitive curator of color and style style, custom tailored, founder of the Midwest Fashion Week and Catou Fashion House, Berny Martin gives us truth and a different take on why fashion with all its many faces has lasted from century to century into the now. Haitian born, Martin brings into the revolving and evolving fashion world the roots of his grandmother, Catou, who he honorably named his fashion house for. During his youth grandmother, Catou saw the rising and imminent appeal of colors and how the patterns of fabric worked. The smell and wonderful essence of clothing material and all that it could bring forth blossomed in Martin who went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, Purdue University and if that didn’t give him enough to do, he conceived the idea of and created the Midwest Fashion Week. When asked, what his thoughts were about the current state of fashion he replied, “I am a designer and custom tailored, seamstress work for me”. His detailed and descriptive of the accumulation of years of study and careful analysis of how the public is muse for most designers is unparalleled with every word from his mouth hinging on expression and one’s individual concept of who and how they should look on any given day. Party goers. Business sensitives of any gender. Those seeking to emulate others whether it suits them or not are the canvas that this designer uses as sweet inspiration. For the love of fashion he continues to design, tailor and consult with the very highest of clientele. You can find his multi-versal and table talk designs from the runways of Paris, Dubai, New York, Kuwait, Chicago to the high ranked fashion faces to the likes of vocalist and performer, Billy Carter. Such confidence comes with reason and experience. Certain stitching’s on fabric can only be done with the daintiest of hands using the most intricate of movement to create a multi verse of patterns which arouse the emotions and stir the soul and Martin has an intuitive sense of the rationale behind design and its process of development. Its no wonder grandmother , Catou made him her chosen one. In Paris Martin mentioned that everything to do with the business of fashion is different. For example, he explains, ” A seamstress is not a fashion house. The ability to sew does not make you a designer, ” Martin says with a clever and suave Haitian flare. In America at times there’s confusion as to the difference in a courtier aka seamstress and a fashion house. In France the two are separated the seamstress is not a fashion house, just as the ability to sew does not make one a designer. In France a seamstress knows how to make the clothes however lack the creative skill to design but know the functionality of making the clothes, he says. In his early days in America people would ask him if he was a seamstress and he would say, no, nah, I inspire create and elevate ones, look personality and their entire being. That’s what a designer does. To find out more about Designer owner and founder of Catou Fashion House Paris go to www.catou
