ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR GREGG T. DANIEL SHARES EXPERIENCES OF THEATER LIFE and AUGUST WILSON’S THE PIANO LESSON

Director Gregg. T. Daniel has a multi-talent career as an actor, writer, and director. With award-winning productions such as Gem of the Ocean, Seven Guitars, Radio Golf, and King Hedley II’s adaptation of the two-time Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson, one can clearly feel the presence of Wilson’s spirit as the story unfolds on the stage of the Pasadena, California-based theater company. Gregg talks about the deep spiritual meaning of the play. The authenticity of music education and its relevance becomes the main topic of discussion between brother and sister when the carved engravings of their grandfather are found on a piano, a family heirloom. The grandfather’s etched life as a slave on the piano ensured that all future generations would come to know his story. Coined as a creative oasis for all by the Los Angeles Times, A Noise Within is taking on the task in collaboration with the award-winning company to produce all 10-play American Century Cycles. The Piano Lesson is the fourth play in Wilson’s extraordinary cycle and explores the Black experience in 20th-century America, decade by decade. The director truly captures the essence of the sincere meaning of Wilson’s writings, which he describes as poetic. The performance run began on October 19th and is ending on November 10, 2024.
