Girls In LA Rock theTech for Social Media Week at General Assembly

The girls kicked it up a notch taking some necessary time out from friends, family and relations, for this week’s Social Media Week 2013, held in Santa Monica, California.  The [youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwkJbnO9rvI’]evening’s, Females Forging LA: A Social Media Showcase, tech takeover was hosted by GirlsinTechLA, is an organization focused on women’s innovative and entrepreneurial achievements in technology. Director of Events and Community Partnerships for the GirlsinTechLA organization, Murriel Perez Calaycay, was on hand to welcome all attendees. The evening’s activities filled the  house with laughter, women and girls of all cultures, ages and sizes. There were a few brave men who certainly didn’t mind being sprinkled here and there amongst a room full of women, wine and tech.  http://socialmediaweek.org/losangeles. [youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eMnjWJSCmE’] The interactive showcase featured a panel of illustrious female experts all diversified on Technology and of course, how it best interacts with Social Media.  www.girlsintechla.org.  Many topics of interest were discussed around online media platforms, its influence on technology, how this media can be used to engage communities, and of course the big word for the evening,  branding identity. The featured panel speakers were Karina Kogan, Senior VP/General Manager www.takepart.com at Participant Media, Tatiana Simonian-VP Neilsen Entertainment, Lee Ann Daly, Investor/Former CMO, Thomson Reuters/Former VP, ESPN, Katie Ann Rosen Kitchens, Editor in Chief and Co-founder of FabFitFun, Tara Tiger Brown, Founder & CEO, LA Makerspace and Karli Henriquez, On Air Personality at KIIS and MTV. The diverse group gifted an eager audience with words of wisdom, food for thought and a professional description of where Technology starts, will never end, how to best get your message exposed to major sites and the use of top keywords for search engines.  GA ( General Assembly), COWORKS (Fun, Collaborative, Office Space), and SENNA (Beauty-Illusion-Transformation) sponsored the preplanned affair. The network mixer provided snacks, juice, wine and water and guest were invited afterwards to talk personally with each panel member.  Board of Directors, Patricia Dao, Managing Director, Katrina Jefferson, Director of Mentorship, Shirlin Hsu, Director of Marketing and Genevieve Liang, Director of Membership for Girls In Tech LA, should serve up a plate full of feel good for themselves.  The event was more than successful, it was a memorial experience.  Who says that a bunch of females can’t respect, care and genuinely talk tech and under one roof, no doubt. Girls In Tech LA along with a few great sponsors, have proven those statistics, not only wrong but highly outdated.  “Females Forging LA” : A Social Media Showcase, was inspiring, hopeful and offered a healthy way to get women to take a long tall walk on the tech side.
